Shea Burden

Biography

Dr. Shea Burden received her BBA from Ohio University in 2004, her MBA from the University of Houston – Clear Lake in 2009, and a DBA from the University of Scranton in 2021. She has earned her CMA, CPA and was part of the inaugural class of recipients of the IRC in 2016. She received the honor of being part of the 2019 inaugural class of 40 under 40 for the National Investor Relations Institute.

After completing her BBA, Shea went to work for Deloitte & Touché.  Following working in public accounting, she did a finance development rotation program for a company called Lubrizol where she spent time in general accounting, internal audit, SOX management and business process improvements at a plant in Deer Park, Texas.  She then moved on to SEC Accounting where she worked on writing the MD&A and footnotes for Form 10-Qs and 10-Ks.  Her next pursuit was investor relations where she worked her way up from analyst to manager and drafted CEO and CFO earnings call scripts and Board of Directors presentations as well as talked to investors.  Her final role before coming to teach at Ohio University in 2017 was Senior Manager of Corporate Accounting. She also built a Barbershop in Richmond, Texas and owned it from 2015 to 2019. 

Shea is an Assistant Professor in the School of Accountancy at Ohio University and Director of the Copeland Scholars Honors Program. She believes we never know how our actions will impact the future of others so service to the community and a commitment to excellence are a lifestyle, not just acts. She served as the 2019-2021 Community Impact Chair for the Mid-Western Region of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. and Treasurer for the Central Ohio Chapter of National Investor Relations Institute. She currently serves as the Treasurer for the Columbus Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. as well as the Mid-Western Region Lead Teen Advisor.

Organized Events

Mid-Western Region of Jack and Jill of America, Inc, Community Impact Chair – 2019 to 2021

• Nov. 2020 – Feb. 2021: Regional Double Good Fundraiser – Lead and organized the teens across the region to sell over $500K of popcorn to fundraise over $250K for the community.
• Nov. 2020 – Feb. 2021: Souper Bowl of Caring – Donating food items to tackle hunger.
• Oct. 2020 – Nov. 2020: Supporting Teen Mothers - Lead effort to help teen African American mothers with $8,873 of donations from amazon wish lists and $4,525 for baby showers, and we provided stroller/car seats, bassinets, swings and playpens.
• Sep. 2020 – Oct. 2020: Spirit Driven Masks – 2,945 masks donated to essential workers.
• May 2020: Regional Day of Service Webinars - Organized three webinars focused on mental health for mothers, graduating seniors and all teens.
• Mar. 2020 – Apr. 2020: Jack and Jill of Foundation Grants - Grant review and scoring for the Jack and Jill of Foundation.
• Nov. 2019 – Feb. 2020: Souper Bowl of Caring – Donating food items to tackle hunger.
• Oct. 2019 – Nov. 2019: Area Workday Conference Service – Lead an initiative with NAMI to lead members to write 544 encouraging notes and give $5,440 in gift cards to individuals battling mental illness. Organized effort to donate 1,119 books and 230 puzzles for children going through the intake process for mental health.

Columbus Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc, Service Chair – 2018 to 2019

• Apr. 2019: March for Babies – March of Dimes, organized volunteers for the march.
• Jan. 2019: MLK Day of Service – Meals on Wheels – LifeCare Alliance, Volunteer time– 79 Participants and delivered over 200 meals!
• Dec. 2018: Holiday Party Service – Organized toy collection and donation for Franklin County Children Services Holiday Wish and Black Girl Magic.
• Nov. 2018 - Apr. 2019: Loose Change – March of Dimes, organized children donating.
• Nov. 2018 - Feb. 2019: Souper Bowl of Caring – Delivered 110 non-perishable items.
• Sep. 2018: Jack and Jill Day of Service - The Center for Family Safety & Healing (TCFSH) – Collected books, toys, and toiletry items.
