Research
Dr. Grant Weinandy is accepting a new Ph.D. student for Fall 2024.
My research uses mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative) to study perceptions and experiences of addictions and addiction treatment in adults. Specifically, I focus on behavioral addictions, including gambling and compulsive sexual behavior, and harm reduction treatment. Through this research, I aim to improve diagnosis, classification, and access to evidence-based and targeted care. I also aim to reduce health disparities in addiction treatment by informing public policy and clinical work with my research.
I am also committed to working towards scientific replicability, reproducibility, and transparency. As such, more information about my current projects and access to preprints of most of my previous works is available on the Open Science Framework (OSF). As a part of this, I also strive to conduct research with cultural awareness, which includes being aware of the impact of various cultural identities, such as race and religion/spirituality, in the areas in which we work and how our research may impact or be accurate for various groups. These related factors are an integral part of my research.
