Joseph Bianco, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist with specialized training in behavioral health in primary care settings. He aims to advance research, medical education and public awareness of the effects of psychological trauma on health. His research examines the effects of childhood adversity on adult health, narrative accounts of trauma and resilience, how traumatic stress in patients affects physician burnout, and designing trauma-informed care training programs for health professionals.

Dr. Bianco has an enduring passion for narrative, storytelling and the arts, which informs his teaching and scholarship. He co-created and teach a narrative medicine elective class (The Open Book Project) for first and second year medical students. He also serves as the Associate Director of the Barbara Geralds Institute for Storytelling and Social Impact and co-produces and co-hosts the Defining Moments podcast with Lynn Harter, PhD.
