Recreation Management Minor

The Recreation Management minor prepares students for professional opportunities in the parks, recreation, and leisure services industry. Students minoring in Recreation Management complete coursework in the following content areas: recreation programming, planning and operating recreation areas and facilities, festival and special event operations, fundraising, and sponsorship development, and parks and protected areas management, among others. The minor is intended to complement other fields of study related to recreation management. Examples of complementary fields of study include Coaching, Sports Management, Hospitality Management, Business, Public Administration, Environmental Studies, and Fine Arts. The minor requires a minimum of 15 credit hours of coursework to complete and includes classes such as:

  • Event planning for recreation services
  • Marketing for recreation services
  • Recreation programming
  • Planning and operating recreation areas and facilities
  • Recreation and leisure in society
  • Concepts and issues in recreation
