Hometown: Cleves, Ohio
Expected Graduation: May 2023
Anna Becker is a senior Industrial and Systems Engineering major with a focus in supply chain, lean/six sigma, and project management. She is the current president of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers and Alpha Pi Mu, an industrial engineering honor society. She is an Ohio Fellows Scholar from the 2020 cohort, which is a non-traditional scholar’s program that fosters growth and engagement with faculty, peers, and alumni. Anna is a Robe Leadership Institute scholar as well. RLI is a group of engineers from every department that stand out in their ability to be leaders and foster community among peers. Anna Becker is also a Russ College Engineering Ambassador representing the ISE department. Among all of these extracurriculars and leadership positions, Anna is most passionate about volunteering at the Athens County Dog Shelter where she walks and plays with dogs that are looking for forever homes.
This past summer, Anna had the opportunity to be a Continuous Improvement Intern with A.P. Moller – Maersk. In this internship, she had the opportunity to work in a warehouse and office setting doing distribution for 12 clients, including Nespresso and Kendo Brands. Anna worked to improve processes such as replenishment and the re-slotting of pick faces. She also made big strides in standardizing operations within each client. Deep connections were made with supervisors and the managers of clients, and she got to see first-hand how B2B and B2C clients operate. The biggest highlight from the internship was that Anna created an automated re-slot template in Excel that managers can use to easily re-slot their client’s pick face. This will lead to the long-term optimization of pick paths and order throughput.
In the Future, Anna Becker hopes to use her degree to go make warehousing and manufacturing operations more profitable and sustainable. She is also interested in the ergonomic and workplace safety side of warehousing and business operations. Her big goal is to start her own contracting company where she would work closely with different businesses to apply lean and six sigma principles to their operations.
Besides Industrial Engineering, Anna is also very passionate about art. She is very talented in studio art, design, and jewelry making. With her free time, she loves to let the right side of her brain take over and create what is on her mind. Anna sells art and jewelry online and has been successful in selling her art all over the USA! Over the summer she participated in a local farmer’s market to make money for the school year. Art and engineering go hand-in-hand, seeing as they both thrive off of thinking outside of the box and imagination.
