Managing Allergies

If you experience allergy symptoms, please consult with Campus Care services or your physician for personalized medical advice. In addition to professional guidance, the following steps can help you manage and reduce your allergy symptoms:

Follow Medical Advice: If your doctor prescribes medication to help manage your allergies, make sure to follow their instructions carefully. Consistent use of prescribed treatments is essential for effectively controlling your symptoms. Campus Care provides allergy injections as a service if needed.

Track Pollen Counts: Regularly check pollen counts on websites like pollen.com. On days when the pollen count is high, try to stay indoors as much as possible to minimize your exposure to allergens. Keeping an eye on the forecast can help you plan your activities accordingly.

Control Allergens Indoors:

  • Keep windows and doors closed to prevent allergens from entering your living space, ensure that windows and doors remain closed, especially on days with high pollen counts.
  • Vacuum and dust regularly as allergens can accumulate on surfaces and be carried into your home on shoes or clothing. Vacuum and dust your living areas frequently to reduce the presence of allergens. Investing in a vacuum with a HEPA filter can help capture smaller particles that regular vacuums might miss.

Avoid Contaminating Bedding: To prevent allergens from spreading to your sleeping area, avoid placing outdoor items like book bags or clothes on your bed. This helps reduce the risk of transferring allergens to your bed linens and sleeping environment.

Practice Good Hygiene: Consider showering and washing your hair before bed to remove any allergens that may have accumulated on your body or hair during the day. This helps prevent allergens from being introduced to your bed linens and sleeping area.

Consider an Air Purifier: If you continue to experience allergy symptoms despite other measures, investing in an air purifier for your room might help. An air purifier can help reduce airborne allergens. However, be cautious about using ozone generators. Ozone generators can produce ozone, which can be harmful to your respiratory health. Ozone exposure can lead to breathing problems, especially for individuals with respiratory conditions.

If these steps do not alleviate your symptoms, or if your allergies become severe, seek further advice from your healthcare provider. They can offer additional treatments or strategies tailored to your specific needs.
