Current Use

Brasee Hall is the main building for the Ohio University Lancaster campus. The building houses a variety of classroom spaces, academic support areas, art spaces, athletic facilities, and food offerings to meet the needs of the OHIO community and beyond. Features include a full-size gymnasium, fitness center, art gallery, theatre, 2-story library, tutoring center, science labs, nursing facilities, and academic classrooms. The North Lobby is located near the front entrance and is an informal place for learning and social interaction that is often flooded with natural light.

History

The John T. Brasee Hall opened for classes in late September, 1968. The building is named after a prominent 19th century and Ohio University Athens graduate who moved to Ohio at the age of 15. As a Lancaster resident, he became the principal of Lancaster Academy in 1824. He went on to serve in the State Senate from 1856-57. Between 2012 and 2022, extensive capital projects maintained and modernized the campus. Renovations established the Jane Johnsen Center for Learning and Student Success, the revitalization of the Wagner Theatre, expanded food service capabilities with the addition of Bob’s Bobcat Bistro, the relocation of the Wilkes Art Gallery to the North Lobby, renovations to the north entrance making it the new campus entrance, upgrade to the Hannah V. McCauley library, extensive HVAC improvements, and the redesign of the 4th floor to house a new BSN nursing program with labs and classroom space.
