Warrington Colescott: The History of Printmaking and Other Travels
West Galleries
Curated by Art Werger
Warrington Colescott, Professor Emeritus, University of Wisconsin, Madison is known for his satiric etchings. In them, he brings history alive by thrusting us into a colorful world in which he has reimagined reality. His best known series, “The History of Printmaking” (1974-1981) helped to establish the historic importance of a neglected artistic medium while also establishing his own position in the pantheon of great print artists. The exhibit at the Kennedy Museum includes the entire original “The History of Printmaking” series as well as works from “My German Trip” (in which he envisions a dialog with great German print artists), and other works.
