Patton College to host Black Lives Matter discussion on June 15

The Patton College of Education is featuring a special session to conclude its Remote Teaching Series from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Monday, June 15. Prompted by events surrounding the recent brutal killing of George Floyd, Patton’s Department of Counseling and Higher Education will host “Black Lives Matter: Mobilizing the University to Combat Racism.” 

The panel will focus on diverse perspectives surrounding the current climate and recommendations for how both individually and collectively faculty can promote change, as well as how higher education can address issues of systemic racism. The session features Akil Houston, African American Studies; Courtney Koestler, OHIO Center for Equity in Mathematics and Science; Yegan Pillay, Counseling and Higher Education; Mona Robinson, Counseling and Higher Education; and Pete Mather, moderator, Counseling and Higher Education. 

This series is open to Ohio University and the community and will be hosted on Microsoft Teams. It will be recorded for those who cannot participate live and posted on The Patton College’s YouTube Channel.
