Wednesday, February 08, 2023

Bobcat Parents & Families,

I'm excited to share that the 2023 Homecoming dates have been announced! This Oct. 2-7 will bring on the celebrating, reminiscing, and reconnecting of the Bobcat family—students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the Athens community. Mark your calendars and stay tuned for all of the can’t-miss events.

Speaking of reconnecting on campus, all of the Family Weekend dates for next school year have also been announced. It's never too early to start planning your stay, especially lodging, so be sure to check out the Family Weekends website.

Advocate for inclusive excellence

Applications are open to recruit the second cohort of the President's Student Cabinet for Inclusive Excellence. The cabinet was created last spring to provide feedback to University leadership from students on OHIO's diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. Be sure to apply by March 1.

Bobcats Helping Bobcats

One in three college students struggle to get enough food

With the cost of groceries rising, more and more OHIO students are finding themselves in need of help to afford food. Students suffering from food insecurity are more likely to fall behind in class, leading to declines in their academic performance, health, and well-being.

Help Bobcats in need

If you can spare extra food, the Cats Cupboard food pantry is in need of donations. Canned proteins, beans, and pasta are always among the most needed items. You can also make a quick donation by purchasing from the pantry Amazon list.

Organize a food drive

27% of OHIO students face food insecurity. If you’re a student org leader, consider coming together to gather food donations to raise awareness for your fellow classmates who may be struggling. For more information, reach out to the Basic Needs office.

Get access to food

78% of OHIO students don’t use resources like Cats’ Cupboard because they think other people need the services more. However, if you are worried your food will run out before you have money to buy more, can’t afford to eat balanced meals, are eating smaller meals, or skipping meals because you can’t afford food, you can sign-up to access the pantry, apply for assistance through SNAP, or find nearby food resources in the community.

Meet the VP!

Your new vice president wants to meet with you! Throughout the semester, you can find Lyn on campus to chat about whatever you want. The first meet-up is this Friday at the ARC Café — check out more times to meet with Lyn.
