Bobcat Storytellers
Introducing the Student News Bureau (SNB), a team of talented OHIO students tasked with creating dynamic, engaging content about the University community. With a special focus on storytelling about the unparallelled Bobcat student experience, the SNB is made up of undergraduate and graduate students with a wide range of academic interests and specialties. Working with leaders and subject matter experts on the award-winning staff of University Communications and Marketing, the SNB team turns out professional-caliber work for distribution on OHIO News and across the University’s digital platforms.
Meet the Bureau
Lily Adams is a senior in her third year of school as a media arts production major, working on minors in interdisciplinary arts and marketing. Lily was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, and currently resides in a small town called New Richmond.
This year is Lily’s first year with the Student News Bureau. She joined to be a helpful asset to the team’s marketing goals and to learn about the storytelling process. She likes to create content that benefits others and that is informational or biographical. Lily hopes that she will gain skills in research and storytelling during her time working with the team.
Kweku "Li" Diaw is a final year master's student majoring in Commercial Photography in Scripps College's Visual Communication program. The versatile creative artist was born and bred in Ghana, West Africa.
Kweku has always been passionate about storytelling, and joining the Student News Bureau allowed him to hone his journalistic skills and document the intriguing stories happening on OHIO's campus.
He likes to write about the creative arts and the collective impact groups, clubs, and societies have on humanity with their gifts and talents. His favorite published pieces since joining the Bureau have been:
Since joining the Student News Bureau, Kweku has improved his interview skills and journalism writing abilities, taking on diverse stories and presenting them in different forms depending on the tone and experience of the story. His favorite part of being in SNB is meeting amazing people and telling their stories.
Henry Gorsuch is a junior from Columbus, Ohio, majoring in journalism strategic communications and minoring in marketing. He wanted to join the Student News Bureau to build his writing portfolio and gain real-world journalism experience. Henry's favorite subjects to write about are events such as the Music Industry Summit or features on students and faculty who make a difference. Once he starts, he is excited to improve his skills in conducting interviews and editing in AP style.
Acadia Hansen is a rising junior majoring in English through the Honors Tutorial College. She is from Grafton, Ohio.
While Acadia is primarily a creative writer interested in producing works of fiction, she joined the Student News Bureau in August 2023 to learn more about journalistic writing. Since then, she has developed a passion for writing about the Athens community, health, and educational programs within the school. Her favorite pieces to work on since joining the Student News Bureau have been:
The Student News Bureau has taught Acadia that writing as a career is a very real possibility. In her time with them, she has learned the steps of journalistic writing and how to arrange and conduct interviews. Her favorite moments with the Student News Bureau are talking to coworkers and her supervisor and learning more about the Athens community.
Logan Jeffries is a senior from North Canton, Ohio studying media production with a minor in marketing and a social media certificate.
He wanted to join the Student News Bureau to hone his production and editing skills by aiding in the production of podcast episodes to highlight the many interesting stories happening around Ohio University and in Athens.
Logan enjoys creating social media content for a variety of brands and organizations and is very excited to extend his skillset into audio production.
Once he starts, he wants to develop his audio production and editing skills while working on the podcast. He also hopes to learn more about what it’s like to work with a team to brainstorm and come up with new and engaging ideas to be executed into full-length podcast episodes.
Isabellia Moyers-Chavez is a third-year undergraduate student majoring in journalism strategic communication within the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. Originally from Dallas, Texas, Isabellia has spent most of her life in Canton, Ohio.
Isabellia has always been passionate about exploring various approaches to communication. Joining the Student News Bureau was a natural choice for her, as it provides abundant opportunities to refine her craft while acquiring new skills. The hands-on experience she gains in the Bureau is invaluable to her career development.
Isabellia particularly enjoys covering success stories of her peers who, like her, are navigating their career paths. She believes that highlighting these stories helps convey to other students that they are not alone in their academic journeys. Her favorite publication since joining the Bureau is:
Since joining the Student News Bureau, Isabellia has significantly improved her post-production skills, honed her interviewing techniques, and gained a comprehensive understanding of webpage editing. She credits much of her growth to the supportive and collaborative environment. The teamwork and camaraderie within the Bureau make it feel more like a tight-knit community rather than just a workplace.
Jack Rohrer is a first-year master’s student from Cincinnati majoring in journalism. He got his bachelor’s in media production from University of Cincinnati. After college he worked the flagship station for the Scripps Networks, WCPO. There, he directed shows, produced on-air and social media content, and had a hand in many other production projects.
Jack loves storytelling at its core and wanted to pursue further opportunities outside of TV news. This led him to Ohio University. Working for the Student News Bureau has helped him hone his writing and interviewing skills. He loves getting involved with the community and telling the stories of those within it.
Jack’s favorite parts about working with the Student News Bureau are the friendly, collaborative team, and the ability to learn more about the greater Athens community.
Emma Stevenson is a second-year undergraduate student majoring in photojournalism in the School of Visual Communication in the Scripps College of Communication. She is a photographer from Hilliard, Ohio.
Emma wanted to be in the Student News Bureau because she is passionate about news photography and following a story. It will also help her learn from her peers and grow a great portfolio.
She likes to create images from venues with local bands, or even bigger bands. Emma also likes to create images about breaking news happening at the moment. Once she starts at the Student News Bureau, Emma wants to form better writing skills and learn more about the inner workings of a news environment.
