RN to BSN Curriculum
- 120 credits total, many of which may be transferred to Ohio University if completed at a previous institution of study.
- Only 9 nursing courses (31 credit hours) are required to be completed at OHIO
- No expiration dates or limits to the number of units that can be transferred into our program
- Students can pursue our program at their own pace
Admitted students have the opportunity to review previous transcripts and coursework for applicable transferable credits; this generates an individualized report of the remaining courses needed to complete the BSN degree. Thirty credit hours of the 120 total must be completed with Ohio University, referred to as residency hours. Your nursing courses will total 31 credits. Fully Accredited Online Degree Program
The baccalaureate degree program in nursing (including both RN to BSN and traditional BSN tracks) at Ohio University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
Ohio University is also accredited as a whole by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), formerly the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Institutions of Higher Education. Online Support Services
Ohio University realizes the unique needs of nurses re-entering the education space and provides additional support for the transition back to being a student. This is especially important to students navigating online learning for the first time.
School of Nursing faculty, academic advisors, and staff members are easily accessible to direct students to the resources and help they need for classwork and technical assistance. This fluid line of communication provides the individualized support needed to be successful in this program.
Through the RN to BSN Nursing Knowledge Center, students in the online RN to BSN program are also equipped with the resources and links they use most often, such as information on how to register, course offerings, and the GO OHIO app.
Online Admission Requirements
Students applying to Ohio’s online RN to BSN program must meet the following criteria:
Associate degree or diploma in Nursing
Grade point average of 2.0 or higher
Resident with an active unencumbered RN license in Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, D.C., West Virginia, Wisconsin or Wyoming.
A Non-degree Nursing Early Start Program is available to help students earn a bachelor's degree faster.
Students can apply for the program as long as they can provide a date and location of NCLEX

Did you previously attend Ohio University?
- If you have previously attended Ohio University as an RN to BSN student, view re-enrollment instructions and the University Registrar re-enrollment form.
- If you have previously attended Ohio University but were not enrolled in the RN to BSN program, please complete both the University Registrar re-enrollment form and a School of Nursing Update of Program form [PDF]. Send completed documents to the departments as noted on each form.
