Canvas offers multiple self-service training options to empower users at all levels. For those new to Canvas, Growing with Canvas provides a structured introduction to core features and best practices. If you're looking to delve deeper into specific topics or prefer a more flexible learning style, the Canvas Training Portal offers a rich library of on-demand resources and live webinars.
Additionally, we attempt to record all training sessions, so they are available to OHIO faculty, staff, and students to review whenever it's most convenient.
Growing With Canvas
New to Canvas? Want an overview of Canvas' features? The "Growing With Canvas" self-paced course is a great place to get started. This comprehensive course, designed by Canvas but enhanced with OHIO-specific content, guides you through everything you need to know. Explore essential tools and advanced features at your own pace.

Instructors: You are automatically enrolled in "Growing With Canvas." Log in at canvas.ohio.edu and view the course under "My Courses."
Staff: If you are not listed as an instructor of record for an OHIO academic course, simply contact OIT to request access.
Training Portal
No matter your experience level, the Canvas Training Services Portal provides resources to help you get the most out of Canvas. You'll find materials covering course configuration, effective teaching strategies, and advanced Canvas features.
Training on your terms:
Self-Paced Modules: Learn at your own pace with convenient, on-demand video tutorials. Explore topics in-depth at your own convenience.
Recorded Webinars: Access pre-recorded training sessions to view, pause, and apply concepts at your convenience.
Live Webinars: For those who prefer real-time interaction, participate in live webinars led by Canvas experts and ask questions directly.
Access the Training Portal
After you log in to Canvas at canvas.ohio.edu, select "Get Help" in the left navigation menu to find the “Training Services Portal”. Check out Accessing the Canvas Training Services Portal for more information.

Recorded Canvas Training
Instructure-Led Training
Helen Wilson, Learning Consultant from Instructure, led three days of training in July 2023 with Canvas administrators, faculty, staff, and instructional designers. You can review the recorded sessions whenever is convenient for you.
Digital Accessibility Considerations
In April 2024, the OHIO Digital Accessibility Network (OHIO-DAN) hosted guest speakers from Canvas:
- Dan Sasaki (Senior Accessibility QA Engineer)
- Jessica Carey (Accessibility Engineering Lead)
- Saša Stojić-Ito (Instructional Designer)
The Canvas guest speakers discussed best practices and strategies for creating accessible digital content within the platform, as well as provided insights into their ongoing commitment to improving accessibility at Canvas.
You can watch the recorded meeting, but please note you must be a member of the OHIO-DAN to access it. Membership in the OHIO-DAN also provides you access to historical and new content and resources related to improving digital accessibility.
