More than 2,300 Ohio University students study in the Scripps College of Communication.

Many of these students are leaders on campus. As communicators, they take on the unique role of shaping and delivering messages and news to their peers.

Some students do this through WOUB Public Media, where they get the chance to work in a television production company and student-run radio station to produce content that is aired on WOUB TV and radio. Some students find their place in the Game Research and Immersive Design Lab (GRID Lab) a state-of-the-art facility where students’ original designs are tested and where the general public can participate in market research on commercial games.

The Scripps College of Communication is also the home of the Global Leadership Center, a certificate program that gives students the opportunity to solve real-world business and communication problems in other nations. After completing the program’s courses, students are paired digitally with students in a partner nation to work on details of the project. The certificate also includes study abroad. The college’s Forensics Speech and Debate Team is yet another learning opportunity for students. Student team members get to travel to competitions, where they have distinguished themselves with national rankings since 1892.

A number of students find their voice through involvement in student organizations, which provide hands-on experience in the day-to-day tasks of communication careers as well as the opportunity to sharpen leadership skills. The student clubs include a record production company, a public relations firm, three student-run magazines, a cable news show, and much more. Finally, though many Scripps College of Communication students work at the daily student-run newspaper, The Post remains independent.
