Ohio University President M. Duane Nellis has been appointed to a three-year term on the Association of Public & Land Grant Universities’ (APLU) inaugural Commission on Economic and Community Engagement (CECE).
The commission, which is led by a diverse group of chief economic and community engagement leaders, presidents, provosts and other senior administrators from APLU institutions across the country, will focus on three key areas of work, including:
- Talent and workforce development
- Innovation and entrepreneurship
- Place development through public service and outreach
“I am honored to represent Ohio University and our region as a representative on APLU’s Commission on Economic and Community Engagement,” President Nellis said. “Together, we will work to strengthen APLU’s vision for developing meaningful collaborations that reinforce the impact of higher education within our economy and our society.”
CECE will also engage in “five core activities” to promote and advance community engagement across APLU universities, including:
- Professional development, leadership and peer exchange
- Designation and awards for excellence
- Projects, research and initiatives
- Communication surrounding economic and community engagement
- Contributions to federal policy issues
The CECE Executive Committee is led by Eric Barron, president of Penn State University.
