Interim Director of Civil Rights Compliance & Title IX University Equity and Civil Rights Compliance Kerri Griffin shared the following message with the campus community on Monday, Oct. 1 regarding the release of Ohio University's Annual Security Report in compliance with the Clery Act.
Release of 2018 Annual Security Report. Ohio University is committed to assisting all members of the Ohio University community in providing for their own safety and security.
In accordance with the federal Clery Act, Ohio University has completed its 2018 Annual Security Report. The report is available on the Ohio University Office of Equity and Civil Rights Compliance (ECRC) website at https://www.ohio.edu/equity-civil-rights/clery/. Printed copies of the Annual Security Report are also available at no charge; contact the Office of Equity and Civil Rights Compliance at 740-593-9140 or equity@ohio.edu, or stop by the ECRC office at Lindley Hall 006 on the Athens campus.
The Annual Security Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including such topics as crime prevention, local law-enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures and other matters of importance related to security on campus. It also contains crime statistics on the Athens, Regional and extension campuses for the calendar years 2015, 2016 and 2017. Crime statistics include reported crimes that occurred in off-campus buildings owned or controlled by Ohio University, and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus.
As you will note, crime reports on and near Ohio University’s Athens campus saw a slight increase in 2017. Multiple factors may have contributed to this slight increase, including growth in the campus population as well as a continued focus on educating the campus community about where to make reports in an effort to connect victims to resources. In addition, each year’s data include crimes that were reported in that year; some of those crimes may have occurred in a prior year.
Included in the Annual Security Report is a link to Ohio University’s Fire Safety Report, which is created and distributed by the Office of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and is available at https://www.ohio.edu/riskandsafety/docs/2018_CLERY.pdf. Printed copies of the Fire & Safety Report are also available at no charge; contact the EHS office at 740-593-1666 or ehs@ohio.edu, or stop by the EHS office at 142 University Service Center in Athens.
