LINKS is a first-year transition, enrichment and support program, committed to attracting and retaining students who value building and living in an inclusive, supportive community.
Any interested first-year student can sign up for LINKS. Additionally, participation in the LINKS program is required for students who are accepted into any of our Multicultural Center Scholars Programs.
The LINKS program provides participants with a built-in supportive community designed to assist their success as a Bobcat. The program provides students with early move-in access, an on-campus welcome program, academic enrichment opportunities, peer mentors, success coaches, leadership opportunities, and community engagement programs.
LINKS participants are paired with an upper-class student mentor and a cohort of other LINKS students. In other words, we will help students find their people, get connected, and build relationships that make the first year at OHIO fun and fulfilling.
Each student in the LINKS program is assigned an academic success coach, who works with students to make sure they are connected to campus, thriving in their areas of study, and aware of the resources available for academic success.
The LINKS Experiential Living Opportunity is an opt-in opportunity for LINKS students to live together in a residence hall floor. Students will have LINKS members as RAs and be able to connect with each other through the LINKS community.
Support does not end after the first year. The Multicultural Center continues to provide academic mentoring and support, credit-bearing courses, service opportunities, and career and leadership development experiences to students beyond their involvement in LINKS. Additional opportunities include study abroad programs, conference opportunities, employment opportunities, and more.
Peer mentor selection is based on academic merit, leadership potential, service to campus and community, and commitment to diversity and inclusion at OHIO. Peer mentors must also successfully complete an 8-week training course in the spring semester (INST 4900 – Peer Mentor). Applications are available in January for the next academic year.
