The OHIO Career Ready Campus provides FREE adult workforce and career development programs. These programs include adult basic education, GED® preparation, workforce literacy, and workforce readiness, transition to post-secondary education, ESOL and civics education, and correctional education.
Courses offered through the OHIO Career Ready Campus are designed to provide opportunities for students to develop the knowledge and expertise needed to successfully enter the workforce.
The Aspire Program at Ohio University
Ohio University's Aspire program is funded by the Ohio Department of Higher Education and offers FREE instruction in Athens and Hocking Counties. The Aspire program provides high-quality basic educational services to assist adult learners in acquiring skills to be successful in postsecondary education, training, and employment. Our graduates earn a living wage, are contributing members of society, and are highly trained and educated when entering the workforce. Programs offered both in-person and online at flexible locations on different days and at various times:
- GED preparation classes
- Life skills, employability skills, and computer literacy
- Distance education -- enhancing learning using technology
- Job training and certification preparation classes
- Workplace education -- education services offered in collaboration with an employer to increase the productivity of the workforce
- Correctional education -- a partnership with jails, detention centers, community-based rehabilitation centers, or other similar institutions
We are providing services in Athens and Hocking Counties and currently, courses are available at the following locations:
- Ohio University, Stevens Literacy Center, Patton Hall
- Tri-County Career Center, 15676 St. Rt. 691, Nelsonville
All adult learners are required to attend an orientation where an assessment is given to help determine the individual's educational needs and goals. The instruction is designed to proceed at a comfortable pace that best meets the needs of the adult learner. Aspire Lab at Tri-County Career Center
The Aspire lab at Tri-C provides classes and individual instruction for adults who wish to improve their basic skills and/or prepare for the General Equivalence Diploma (GED) test, which can be taken at the Adult Center. The Aspire lab provides small group and individual instruction in the following areas:
- Basic math, reading, and writing skills
- Adult Secondary Education/GED preparation
- English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
- Transition services - including employment and post-secondary
- Life skills, employability skills, and computer literacy
- Family Literacy - enriching the parental role of adult learners
- Workplace Literacy - education services offered in collaboration with business, industry, government, and/or labor to increase the productivity of the workforce through improved literacy skills.
- Corrections Education - a partnership with a jail, detention center, community-based rehabilitation center, or other similar institutions
- Distance Education
