Overview

All students in teacher licensure programs must purchase a subscription to LiveText by Watermark (Including Field Experience Management). The Patton College of Education uses LiveText to collect critical accreditation data. This includes some assignments that must be submitted on LiveText and the tracking and management of field experiences.

What is LiveText?

LiveText is a platform used by the Patton College of Education for collecting assignments, tracking field experiences, and managing accreditation data.

Who needs to use LiveText?

Students in teacher licensure programs, counseling programs, or in courses that list LiveText as a requirement in the syllabus are required to use it. Faculty and staff also use LiveText to assess student work and track program outcomes. If you are unsure if you need LiveText, check your course syllabi.

When do I need to purchase LiveText?

Purchase it before the first assignment that requires it. Your instructor will include this information in the course syllabus.

How much does LiveText cost?

The required version, which includes Field Experience Management, costs approximately $135. The license is valid for 7 years.

How to Purchase LiveText?

  • Go to LiveText.com (opens in a new window).
  • Click on Login | Register | Buy in the top right corner.
  • Select "Purchase Membership."
  • Choose "LiveText by Watermark [with Field Experience Management]."
  • Complete the form and payment process.
  • Input your PID into “Student ID” 

Why is Livetext required?

LiveText helps the college meet state and national accreditation standards. It is used to collect assessment data and manage field placements.

How do I submit an assignment?

Can I resubmit an assignment?

Only if your instructor has enabled that option. If not, contact your instructor. 

What is the Field Experience Management (FEM) component?

FEM is used to track field placements such as internships, practicums, and student teaching. It includes time logs and evaluations.

How do I log hours for a field placement?

What’s the difference between a mentor and a supervisor?

A mentor is your on-site field supervisor.
A supervisor is your Ohio University faculty member overseeing the placement.

I already have a LiveText account from another school. Do I need a new one?

If your account is still active, you may be able to transfer it. Contact LiveText support for assistance.

For Faculty, Instructors, Mentors and Staff

Does My Course Need LiveText?

If you are unsure, contact the program coordinator and/or department chair who oversees your course. If LiveText is required, it is critical that you list it as a requirement on the syllabus so students are aware at the start of the semester.

Do mentors need to buy LiveText?

No. Mentors receive free access to complete evaluations.

Create A LiveText Account

This should work in most browsers, but if you have trouble, try it in Firefox:

  1. Get needed information:
    • Contact your program coordinator and/or the department chair to get the 7 digit key code (used in step 6).
    • Find your Faculty PID, which is located on your OHIO ID card. You can also find your PID by following the directions on the accessing your account page (opens in a new window) - scroll down to Finding your PID (used in step 7).
  2. Go to LiveText.com (opens in a new window).
  3. Click on Login | Register | Buy in the top right corner.
  4. On the next screen: Click the Register button (do not click one of the Purchase buttons).
  5. Choose Your Role: Faculty Member.
  6. For Enter Your Key Code select 7 digits, then enter the key code from step 1.
  7. Complete all information, being especially careful to enter your OHIO work email and your PID in the Faculty ID box from step 1.
