Program Improvement

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering

Based upon the pre-determined performance criteria for each learning outcome and a required trigger (failure of the students to meet the performance criterial in three or more of the assessment tools), the following plan of action is taken based upon committee vote.

Step 1

Curriculum Committee examines the performance data carefully for the triggered outcome. The committee then selects an appropriate course of action from the list below:

Option 1: Take no action at this time. Record the reason(s). Monitor performance closely for at least one year.

Option 2: Give strong feedback to prerequisite course instructor.

Option 3: Reassess the performance criteria.

Option 4: Improve assessment tools or the manner in which performance is measured.

Option 5: Modify course contents in related courses to address deficiencies.

Option 6: Modify a portion of the curriculum.

Option 7: Develop a new course.

Option 8: Improve current equipment or purchase new equipment.

Option 9: Take an action not listed above. Describe the action.

Step 2

The proposed course of action is presented to department faculty for discussions and final voting.

Step 3

Implement the course of action. Document the entire process.

Step 4

Monitor the performance changes closely for at least two years to assess the effectiveness of the action taken.

Master of Science in Civil Engineering

  • The department graduate committee oversees graduate learning.
  • Graduate learning takes place through one-on-one mentoring by research advisors and committee members, coursework, and the independent and guided planning, execution, and analysis of the research plan.
  • Students must successfully complete the college graduate writing course, ET 6200.
  • Students must successfully complete the course CE 6915 – Civil Engineering Seminar. The course’s primary focus is on research planning, conduct, and communication. The course content can be adjusted to address areas of concern.

Doctorate of Civil Engineering

  • The department graduate committee oversees graduate learning.
