Tong is an assistant professor of instruction in the J. Warren McClure School of Emerging Communication Technologies where he teaches courses related to Cybersecurity.
His career spans a variety of different specialties giving him a broad view of the Information Technology industry. His career started as a Communications Officer for the USAF for HQ Strategic Command and USSTRATCOM where he implemented communications protocols for the nation’s missile warning system. He worked for more than two decades as a software engineer developing a wide range of applications involving multiprocessing and multithreading in client-server architectures. He has also worked on applications for handheld computing on a platform that was considered one of the predecessors to the iPhone. Tong changed careers to be an IT Auditor and served in that role for over a decade. He has had to work with people at all levels of organizations from technicians to the boardroom.
Tong is an active member in ISACA, a professional organization of IT Auditors and has been active in the Association of College and University Auditors (ACUA).
Heholds a bachelor's degree in Computer Systems in Business and a master’s degree in Communications Technology and Policy. He also holds Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Project Management Professional (PMP) professional certifications, and an IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) certification as a Release and Control Practitioner.
