Expert Bio

As a faculty member at Ohio University Lancaster, Dr. Pamela Kaylor teaches courses in Communication Studies and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Her primary areas of instructional interest include women’s issues, qualitative research, gender and communication, intercultural communication, social justice, and rhetoric. She holds a doctorate degree in Communication and a graduate certificate in Women’s Studies from Ohio University, a master’s degree in organizational communication and two undergraduate degrees (Sociology and Organizational Communication) from Murray State University.

Dr. Kaylor has presented papers and served on panels at numerous conferences and served as an invited speaker for women’s organizations. She has presented at the National Women’s Studies Association in Puerto Rico, the International COIL Conference in Mexico, and the Organization for the Study of Communication, Language and Gender in San Francisco.  Her dissertation From Green River Farm to Feminist Front: The Rhetorical Strategies of ERA Activist Allie Corbin Hixson was an analysis of the work of Allie Corbin Hixson, who was later inducted into the Women’s Hall of Fame at the Kentucky Statehouse. She currently serves on the Editorial Board as a Reviewer for the Ohio Communication Journal.

Dr. Kaylor was the founder and chair of Celebrate Women for the last 19 years, a conference that focuses on women’s leadership and bridging community, business, and the university in the region. She was a co-founder for the Women’s Leadership Summit in Lancaster. She is active in international learning opportunities as a Collaborative Online International Fellow and currently leads study abroad programs to Thailand.

Dr. Kaylor has worked on issues relating to gendered violence, women’s issues, and social justice issues for more than 30 years. In Kentucky, she held a state office for the Kentucky National Organization for Women and was an activist for a number of women’s causes and arts organizations. She was awarded an International Women’s Day Award In Education by the Purpose for Women International.  She has received recognition including Professor of the Year at OHIO Lancaster, Regional Higher Education Instructional Faculty of the Year, Distinguished Teacher Service, the John Houk Memorial Research Grant from Ohio University, senate citations from Ohio and Kentucky, the Linda Cochran-Breazeale Fellowship from Murray State University, was named an Ambassador of Good Will for Kentucky Tourism, Service Awards and is a commissioned Kentucky Colonel.
