DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION PLANNING & REAL ESTATE
EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH PROGRAM
PURPOSE: The Employee of the Month program is intended to recognize exceptional performance by employees whose work sets the standards for excellence and innovation by going above and beyond the normal expectations of the job. It is to award those employees whose individual achievements, contributions and support have a considerable impact on Facilities Management and Safety, Design & Construction, University Planning, and Office of Real Estate and Ohio University.
ELIGIBILITY: There will be one (1) Employee of the Month selected each month from Administrator or AFSCME 3200 pool and three (3) per month from the Facilities Management and Safety AFSCME 1699 pool of eligible nominees. This pool will be made up the following areas:
- Administrator or AFSCME 3200
- AFSCME 1699
The following positions are excluded from consideration for the Employee of the Month program:
- Associate Vice President for Facilities and Safety
- Associate Vice President for Design & Construction
Employees will be eligible to receive the award only two times per year, but not more than once in six months.
Student employees will be invited to join any employee recognition and appreciation events.
CRITERIA: The Employee of the Month nominees should meet the following criteria:
- Must be employed at Ohio University for at least one year on a full-time basis or equivalent service on a part-time basis.
- Must be employed in Facilities Management and Safety, Design & Construction, University Planning, or the Office of Real Estate.
- No active disciplines.
- No active last chance agreement.
- Must be dependable in completing assignments in a timely and safe manner.
- Must demonstrate consistently good work and dedication to their job.
- Must have a positive attitude toward work responsibilities, co-workers and customers.
- Must demonstrate all the willingness to take initiative and accept and carry out additional responsibilities beyond regular job assignments.
An Employee of the Month Selection Committee, hereinafter referred to as the “Selection Committee” will be appointed and will be compromised of a total of six representatives from the following Facilities Management and Safety areas:
Administrator One Representative
AFSCME 3200 One Representative AFSCME 1699 – (Selected by Union) One Representative M&O / Life Safety / Heating Plant One Representative Custodial Services / RCS / Grounds One Representative
Chairperson Non-Voting Member (except as a tie breaker)
COMMITTEE Selection Committee Representatives must be a current Facilities Management
SELECTION and Safety, Design & Construction, University Planning, or Office of Real Estate employee who meets the same ELIGIBILITY and CRITERIA
PROCESS requirements as nominees (as specified above). Selection Committee members will serve on a volunteer basis. All persons interested in serving on the Selection Committee should contact the Chairperson of the Committee.
Each Selection Committee member will serve on the Committee for a period of one
(1) year. Selection Committee members may serve a second term if their respective departmental director and Selection Committee members agree to this extension of service. Committee members who join the Committee as replacement representatives will be eligible to continue on the Committee and serve the next full year’s term. Selection Committee members will not be eligible for this award while serving on this committee.
In September of each year, a new Selection Committee will be formed using the same process identified above. The chairperson of the committee will act as a non- voting member.
NOMINATIONS: Any Ohio University employee (including Selection Committee members) may nominate an employee for this award using a nomination form or via the Facilities Management and Safety website. (https://ohio.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3kfVz9g2btIA0AZ)
Nominations will be accepted at any time during the year and will be valid for the month in which he/she is nominated.
NOMINEE: The Selection Committee will evaluate all nominations received. A list of eligible nominees will be produced and distributed by the Chairperson of the Selection Committee Members. A designated representative of the Selection Committee will verify that each nominee meets the ELIGIBILITY and CRITERIA requirements before the voting process takes place.
One (1) Employee of the Month will be selected each month from Administrator or AFSCME 3200 pool and three (3) per month from the Facilities Management and Safety AFSCME 1699 Employee of the Month pool, and their names will be submitted to the Associate Vice President for Facilities Management and Safety no later than the last working day of the month.
AWARD: The Employee of the Month awards for the previous month will be announced by the first work day of the next month, with the exception of December, which will be announced in January, upon return from Winter Break Closure. The Associate Vice President for Facilities Management and Safety, Associate Vice President for Design & Construction, Associate Vice President for University Planning, and/or the Director of Real Estate will present the awards to the recipients at a ceremony each month and be recognized at the next All Staff Meeting.
Awards for the Employee of the Month will include:
- Certificate of Recognition
- Personalized thermal mug
- Congratulatory letter from Associate Vice President Facilities Management and Safety and Associate Vice President of Design & Construction
- Facilities Management & Safety, Employee of the Month Token
- Name placed on plaque displayed in the Facility Management and Safety/University Service Center lobby
- Photo displayed for one month in the Facilities Management and Safety/University Service Center lobby
