University establishes IT Governance framework


Technology is essential for the day to day activities of students, faculty, and staff and an enabler for many of Ohio University’s strategic initiatives. To ensure our technology strategies align with OHIO priorities and evolve with the changing needs of our campus, OIT is establishing an IT Governance framework to solicit input, engage the campus community, and inform decisions regarding IT strategy and services.

News reporter Lisa Friedman’s Feb. 11 talk, “Climate Change in the Age of Trump,” will concentrate on how climate change talks and regulations have changed drastically over the past few years, including differences between the Obama and Trump administrations.

On January 22, 2020, Ohio University received notice that Ohio Council 8, AFSCME, AFL-CIO, filed with the State Employment Relations Board a Request for Recognition on behalf of all full-time and regular part-time classified employees at Ohio University.

From Acid Mine Drainage to Paint


In the rolling Appalachian foothills of Ohio, Sunday Creek runs bright with shades of red and orange. The 27-mile-long tributary flows through the ruins of abandoned coal mines, which sprawl beneath the southeast part of the state like a labyrinth. The companies that dug the century-old mines are long gone. But residents in this rural region still live with the mess that’s left behind.

Software updates for spring semester: Windows, Office, and more


During spring 2020, OIT will be upgrading software on many University-owned computers. If your computer is affected, you can expect to hear from OIT or your departmental IT technician in the coming weeks. Titles being upgraded include Windows 7, older versions of Windows 10, and older versions of Microsoft Office for Mac and PC. Mac users also will receive a new application called Self Service that provides automatic security updates and one-click install icons for University-licensed software. These upgrades are part of a regular schedule to keep University devices secure, current, and in compliance with vendor license terms

Meet the November Facilities Management Employees of the Month


Ohio University Facilities Management and Safety (FMS) has announced the November 2019 awardees of its Employee of the Month program, which recognizes exceptional performance by its employees.

All OHIO employees are invited to nominate FMS employees for this award using the nomination form on the FMS website. Nominations will be accepted at any time during the year. 

This month’s winners are Danny Counts and Barry Douglas.
