Confidential Recycling Update
Effective January 1, 2022, Gator Shredding will replace Shred-It as the preferred vendor for confidential shredding services at Ohio University. Gator Shredding was selected through a competitive bid process with a bid evaluation committee comprised of service users or stakeholders, including: Bruce Tong (Office of Audit, Risk, and Compliance), Cheri Sheets (Arts and Sciences), Brianne Dowler (International Studies), Alicia Porter (Information Security), Ana Tomas (Human Resources), and William Kimok (University Archivist). Gator Shredding was selected based on their service pricing and demonstrated customer service.
Procurement Services will be working with Shred-It and Gator Shredding to develop and communicate a transition plan for final services from Shred-It, placement of Gator Shredding bins, removal of Shred-It bins, and the initiation of service with Gator Shredding.
Service Options
Recurring Service: If you need a permanent bin placement, establishing recurring service is REQUIRED. The recurring service requirement is necessary for Gator Shredding to recover the cost of investment in bins while also maintaining a low contract price. Departments are encouraged to evaluate sharing a bin with other departments within your building.
On-demand/Purge: Departments may request on-demand or purge services. Temporary bins can be requested for this service.
Please note: Gator Shredding will NOT be providing destruction services for digital media (computers, phones, USBs, CDs, etc). For this service, please consult our University policies and standards for securely destroying data and contact OIT for questions related to secure digital media destruction.
Need to Establish Recurring Service?
If you intend to establish recurring confidential shredding service for your department/building beginning 1/1/2022, please email Chad Mitchell (mitchec2@ohio.edu) by Wed, Sept. 8, (in your email, please provide the department(s) represented and the building) and you will be provided additional information and a service sign-up form. Information needed in the sign-up form will include: Contact Information, Bin Location, Bin Type, Shredding Location, Frequency of Service (additional information is provided below).

Purchase Orders and Invoice Payments
Like all services, a purchase order will be required prior to service initiation. We are developing the initiation process with Gator Shredding and will communicate this process when it is finalized.
