Great Minds Fellowship
Ohio University is committed to developing prepared professionals ready to become part of Ohio’s community behavioral health workforce. As part of the State of Ohio's Great Minds Fellowship Program, students enrolled in OHIO’s bachelor of social work, master of social work or master of counseling program may be eligible for individual scholarship awards.
The Great Minds Fellowship Program allows for a maximum award of $15,000 per student, for students who are committed to performing their clinical or field work and a year of post-graduation employment at a participating community behavioral health provider.
Applicant Criteria
For consideration, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Enrollment at an Ohio University campus, including OHIO Online
- Part-time or full-time enrollment
- Anticipated graduation no later than the end of the spring semester in May 2027 to be eligible for an award for spring 2025.
- A current resident of the state of Ohio
- A signed Great Minds Fellowship agreement
How to Apply
Students who wish to participate in the Great Minds Fellowship Program should complete a brief application by the posted deadlines. All interested students will be reviewed and notified of eligibility. Ohio University is committed to maximizing the scholarship fund for eligible students although final award amounts may vary based on individual financial aid eligibility.
To Apply
- Download, review and sign the Great Minds Fellowship student agreement form. Your signed agreement form confirming your commitment to completing clinical internship/field placement requirement at a participating community behavioral health partner and to one year of employment at a participating community behavioral health partner upon graduation is required to be eligible for this program.
- Submit your reviewed and signed Great Minds Followship student agreement form via your OHIO email account to Sarah Poggione at poggione@ohio.edu. In your email please address the following:
- Confirm that you meet all the applicant criteria described above in the "Applicant Criteria" section.
- Provide your Ohio University PID.
- Indicate which program you are currently enrolled in (Bachelor of Social Work, Master of Social work, or Master of Counseling).
- What is your anticipated graduation date? In order to be eligible for Spring 2025 funds, your anticipated graduation date must be not later than the end of Spring Semester in May 2027.

For full consideration, complete applications with signed student agreement forms must be submitted by:
- For full consideration for the spring 2025 semester, submit all required materials including your signed agreement form by Oct. 15, 2024.
- Applications for the spring 2025 semester will continue to be accepted until Dec. 12, 2024, based on available funds.
