Communication (B.S.)

Program Overview

The Communication major program is ideally suited for professionals in a variety of public, non-profit, and private organizations who have positions that emphasize internal and external communication. The major cross-trains individuals in visual, written, and oral communication, emphasizing both practical application and theory-based communication strategy. The major is delivered in a flexible online format, requiring no face-to-face meetings. The major is open to students at any stage of their college career including recent high school graduates and transfer students. Students who have already completed an associate's degree (60 or more semester hours or 90 or more quarter hours) are also excellent candidates for this degree program. Courses in the major are designed with best practices for online pedagogy, emphasizing the same student enrichment philosophy that grounds other majors in the Scripps College of Communication.

*This program was previously BC5381 which awarded the Bachelor of Science in Communication. Pending Board of Trustees approval (anticipated June 2024), the new program code will be BS5398 and will award the Bachelor of Science effective the 2024-25 catalog year.
