Aviation Flight Major (B.S.)

Program Overview

The aviation flight program is a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved FAR 141 program that meets the federal regulations for pilot training schools. Specifically, the flight program educates and prepares students for a variety of pilot-related positions, including professional flight instructor, commercial pilot, airline pilot, and corporate pilot positions. Flight training is completed in university-owned aircraft.

*This program was previously BS7269 which awarded the Bachelor of Science in Aviation degree. Pending Board of Trustees approval (anticipated June 2024), the new program code will be BS7275 and will award the Bachelor of Science degree effective the 2024-25 catalog year.

Admissions Information

Freshman/First-Year Admission

Admission to the aviation flight program requires submission of a supplemental essay or video response. More information is available at ohio.edu/aviation-admission. Students selected for the aviation flight program must obtain and submit verification of their second-class medical certificate. Per FAA regulation, students must speak, read, write and understand English as determined by the Ohio University Department of Aviation.

Change of Program Policy

Under normal circumstances, current students are not eligible to transfer into the aviation flight major; however, if space in the program becomes available, current students may request consideration from the Department of Aviation.

External Transfer Admission

AVN 3400, AVN 4000, AVN 4050, AVN 4200, AVN 4300, AVN 4450 and AVN 4550 must be completed at Ohio University. These courses cannot be transferred to Ohio University.
