OHIO students reflect on service to tsunami-ravaged region of Japan

On the weekend of Sept. 24, 2011, 18 Ohio University students, administrators and friends volunteered with 26 Iwate Prefectural University students and faculty in a tsunami relief service trip to Otsuchi, Iwate, on Japan's northeast coast.

A majority of the group spent their day on a river clean-up project, while the others visited Osanago Yochien, a local kindergarten.

The OHIO contingent brought with them books and panel-story donations to Osanago Yochien and financial contributions of close to $2,000 for the Otsuchi Disaster Relief Fund. Donations were provided by more than 30 individuals from across the country who wanted to support this Ohio University service project.
