Ohio University’s annual Sibs Weekend is Feb. 2-4

Ohio University is kicking off its first family weekend of 2018 with Sibs Weekend, beginning Friday, Feb. 2, through Sunday, Feb. 4. Big and little siblings, cousins and other family members are welcome to visit the Athens Campus and get a taste of college life as an OHIO Bobcat.

The OHIO community will be offering several events throughout the weekend:

Sports
  • Head over to Bird Arena to cheer on OHIO Hockey as they battle on the ice against Oakland University on Friday and Saturday. Doors open at 6:45 p.m., and the puck drops at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $6 for students, $7 for children and $9 for adults.
  • Immediately following the OHIO Hockey game on Saturday, Bird Arena will host a “Midnight Meltdown” from 10:30 p.m. to midnight. Hit the ice and enjoy a recreational skate session with your sibling. 
  • On Saturday, Feb. 3, bring your sibs to the Convocation Center to see the OHIO Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams in action. At 1 p.m., the women’s team will face Ball State. At 3:30 p.m. the men's team will host Central Michigan. The first 1,000 fans will receive a free frisbee, and Team Zoom: Frisbee Dogs will be featured during the game's halftime performance. Admission is free for students with an Ohio University ID. 
Entertainment
  • OHIO is a pretty magical place by itself. But on Friday, Feb. 2, at 8 p.m. in Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium, we’re bringing the magic to campus. Magician Daniel Martin has quickly become one of the most in-demand performers touring today. Bring your sib to a high-energy show with exhilarating magic and sarcastic improvisations.  
  • The magic continues on the big screen as the Athena Cinema hosts a Harry Potter marathon on Saturday from noon to midnight. The marathon will feature the first four Harry Potter films and Harry Potter-themed snacks, trivia and costume contests. 
  • Go get physical in a version of the world’s largest obstacle course, WipeOUT! Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the University Program Council invites all OHIO students to bring their siblings to the Ping Center for giant inflatables, cookout food and lots of memories.
  • Unleash your secret agent alter ego at the Ping Center! Work with your group to find clues and solve puzzles to breakout of Campus Rec’s escape room before the clock runs out. The mystery solving begins Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. and registration is $10 per person.
  • On Saturday at 8 p.m., Memorial Auditorium will be buzzing with excitement. OHIO’s Black Student Cultural Programming Board (BSCPB) will host its annual Sibs Weekend Hip-Hop Concert featuring chart-topping artist A Boogie Wit da Hoodie. Purchase tickets online or at Memorial Auditorium.
Art
  • On Saturday, Feb. 3, from 1 to 3 p.m. visit the second floor of the Kennedy Museum of Art for the exhibition “50 Year Journey: Ron Kroutel Paintings.” Kroutel is an professor emeritus of art at OHIO's School of Art + Design, and the retrospective exhibition feature 36 works spanning his career. Join your sib in a free open studio activity. Admission is free.
  • Show off your creativity at a canvas-painting event hosted by Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. The event will take place Saturday at 1 p.m. in the third-floor Atrium in Baker University Center and is open to everyone of all ages. All materials are provided in the participation cost. Adventures
  • Are you a big fan of the great outdoors? Enjoy the many adventures OHIO’s Outdoor Pursuits has to offer. Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., enjoy an evening under the stars at The Ridges with Campus Recreation’s “Stargazing and Night Hike.” The cost is $10 per person and transportation, guide staff and campfire snacks are included.   • Join the Conkle’s Hollow Day Hike through the Hocking Hills Saturday and Sunday beginning at 10 a.m.; participants will meet at the Ping Center prior to the hike. Tickets are $20 per person and include transportation, guide staff and a light meal. 
  • Are your siblings thrill-seekers? Find out which sibling is the bravest at the zip line facility at The Ridges! Climb the 40-foot tower and plunge down the zip line! The event will take place Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $25 per person and includes transportation, gear and instruction.   • On Sunday at 1 p.m., check out the spring carnival, WinterPOOLoza, at the Aquatic Center. There will be canoe battleship and games.
