iCUE Spotlight: Feb. 5-11, 2018

Hey there Bobcats, it's Week 4! Even though the weather is still wintry, spring semester is in full swing. From informative lectures to a professional development workshop series, there are incredible learning opportunities happening all across campus!

Check out this week's featured events below and be sure to visit the OHIO Calendar of University Events, the University's official online calendar, for more:

Wealth & Poverty Week on Identities and Inequalities Our identities have a profound impact on our lives. While the enforcement of identity norms and the hierarchies associated with different identities can be highly problematic, our identities can also be a great source of belonging and pride. The Wealth and Poverty Week on Identities and Inequalities brings the Ohio University community together to discuss specific inequalities related to identities, and how identities can be part of the solutions to these inequalities.

Prepare for the Fair: The Spring Career and Internship Fair is next week on Wednesday, Feb. 14, so the CLDC is offering opportunities throughout this week for students to learn about professional dress, resumes, cover letters and job searching. Events include:

  • Dress for Success Workshop (Monday, Feb. 5, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Amanda J. Cunningham Leadership Center, Baker University Center 366): Learn how to dress professionally for networking events and interviews - on a budget!
  • Creating the Perfect Resume and Cover Letter (Tuesday, Feb. 6, 5:30-6:30 p.m., CDLC, Baker University Center 503): Sharpen your resume/cover letter skills with this interactive workshop! Participants will receive tips on the development of a professional document, learn how to personalize application materials to fit their unique style, and increase their understanding of the content that should (and should not) be included in a resume and cover letter.
  • Job Search and Interviewing (Wednesday, Feb. 7, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Amanda J. Cunningham Leadership Center, Baker University Center 366): This workshop will demystify the process of the job search and prepare you for your interview. Explore resources to create a job search plan and get tips for the entire interview process.
  • Beyond the Website - Researching a Company Before Your Interview (Wednesday, Feb. 7, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Amanda J. Cunningham Leadership Center, Baker University Center 366): In this hands-on workshop, Business Librarian Chad Boeninger will show you tools and techniques for finding information beyond what is listed on a company website.

Science Café: Kimberly Rios (Wendesday, Feb. 7, 5-6 p.m., Front Room Campus Coffeehouse): Join Associate Professor of Psychology Dr. Kimberly Rios for her Science Café! Titled "Perceptions of Science and Religion in the U.S. and Beyond," Rios will address common (mis)perceptions about the science-religion relationship and how such perceptions contribute to the lack of religious believers in science. As with all Science Cafes, free coffee will be provided to the first 50 attendees and a live webcast of the event will be available.

90 Minutes Series - Bob Ryan  (Wednesday, Feb. 7, 7-8:30 p.m., Schoonover Center 145): Join the Black Student Communication Caucus and the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism as they host a "90 Minutes Series" candid conversation with Bob Ryan, sports columnist for The Boston Globe. The purpose of this series is to expose students to people who have faced adversity, bigotry and discrimination, but have stepped forward to address those social/cultural wrongs.
