The Patton College of Education will host its bi-annual Violet Patton Lecture Series at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6 in McCracken Hall 232.
The featured speaker is Dr. Margaret Zoller Booth, who received her Ph.D. in Education from the College in 1991, as well as an M.A. in International Studies (African Studies) from Ohio University in 1987.
Dr. Booth is dean of the Graduate College at Bowling Green State University. She was the director of the School of Educational Foundations, Leadership and Policy before joining the BGSU Graduate College in 2012. As dean, she is responsible for providing academic leadership for the teaching and research productivity in graduate degree programs at BGSU.
She believes her background in both arts and sciences and education from Ohio University has made her successful in her role as dean.
As a professor of educational psychology and comparative education at BGSU since 1997, these two fields of study have informed her research agenda, which has been dedicated to studying the relationship between cultural environments and education and human development.
Dr. Booth’s research has focused on educational environments as varied as Swaziland, Manchester England, Cleveland, and communities in Northwest Ohio.
Her presentation is titled, "From Academic to Academic Administrator: A Sociocultural Analysis of ‘The Whole Activity.'" The event will include lunch and is open to the public.
