Local Girl Scouts to test engineering designs Saturday at Ohio University STEM competition

Ohio University’s Society of Women Engineers (SWE) student chapter will host the "Buildings, Brains, and Boxes" competition for local Girl Scouts from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at The Market on State. The event is free and open to the public.

The SWE members, who are students at the Russ College of Engineering and Technology, have worked with the Girl Scouts over two previous Saturdays to help them design structures in accordance to standards of the Rube Goldberg Machine Contest, using Girl Scout cookie boxes and a few simple machines. Projects will be judged on creativity, simple machine design, and simple machine functions.

The competition provides young girls the opportunity to explore and experience STEM.
