Meet April Classified Employee of the Month April Koska

Compass features a Q&A with the non-bargaining Classified Employee of the Month. Each month, Classified Senate selects an employee to acknowledge and recognize as someone who is setting high standards for excellence and innovation. The monthly feature, titled "Great Job," provides a glimpse into the honoree's life on and off campus.

How surprised were you to win the Employee of the Month award?

I was very surprised and honored. There are so many other deserving individuals on campus.

What is your job title and how long have you worked it?

I am the executive assistant in the Scripps College of Communication Dean’s Office. I have worked there May of 2016. I started working at OHIO in August 2004.

What are the most enjoyable things about your job?

I enjoy working with all of my co-workers, which includes faculty, staff and students. I am always learning something new.

What are your long-term goals?

I have so many long term goals. However, my top long term goal is to raise my humans (children) to be good people, to help others, contribute to society in a positive way and to have a backbone!

What was the last good book you read?

“Everybody Needs to Forgive Somebody,” by Allen R. Hunt. Amazing book!

If you weren’t in your present job, you would be working as a ______ .

This is a very good question. I am still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up.

What things in life are the most important to you?

My family, friends and my relationship with God.

Where is your favorite vacation destination?

A relaxing destination with no cell service.

What are your favorite TV shows?

“This Is Us” is my favorite. 

Who are your favorite musicians?

One of favorite musicians is Alecia Beth Moore, better known as Pink.

What is the next big event you can't wait for?

Our next family vacation so that my family and I can actually spend time together.

What is your favorite saying or quote?

My children would say my favorite saying is, “Suck It Up, Buttercup.” I say that a lot when my children are playing sports. My favorite Bible scripture is: “Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures though every circumstance” (1 Corinthians 13:7)
