August course design studio accepting applications

The Office of Instructional Innovation (OII) offers support to faculty interested in teaching online by providing current tools and strategies, as well as course design and redesign. To help faculty create more effective online learning environments, OII is again offering a Design Studio for Online and Blended Courses in August.

This weeklong, intensive workshop will be facilitated by Jeff Kuhn and Patrick Mose, instructional designers with OII. They will lead sessions for faculty about course design, interactive tools, and multimedia design techniques that can be incorporated into both blended and online courses. The workshop will take place August 20–24, 2018, from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. on the Athens Campus.

“Design is perceived by many as a complex phenomenon. However, working as a team demystifies that myth,” said Mose. “Previously, I have observed a significant transformation among the faculty that participate in this workshop regarding best practices of design. I believe this is the best opportunity to learn more about course design.”

Participants will experience hands-on structured workshops, individual assistance and consultation, group discussions, and sharing opportunities. By the end of the week, attendees will be able to apply effective design techniques to create a course that aligns to their course goals, use interactive tools to facilitate discussions and foster a sense of community, and find and develop multimedia that enhance their students’ learning experiences.

“We are looking forward to brainstorming and collaborating with a diverse array of faculty on their class design challenges,” said Kuhn. “These studios are a unique space in which to experiment and expand upon your course design process.”

Those interested in attending should submit an application by Monday, August 6. If selected to attend, applicants will be contacted by Tuesday, August 7. Space is limited to 12 participants.

OII offers design studio workshops during the breaks between each semester. For more information, contact OII at oii@ohio.edu.
