President Nellis shares Ohio University’s 2017-2018 Annual Report

OHIO President M. Duane Nellis shared the following message with the campus community regarding the University's 2017-2018 Annual Report on Thursday, August 23.

Dear OHIO Friends,

As the summer comes to a close and we gear up for another exciting year at Ohio University, I pause to reflect upon my first year as OHIO’s 21st president. As I look back on the last year, I can honestly say that it has been an exciting, educational and rewarding experience, and I am proud to be a part of the many wonderful faculty and staff who work at Ohio University!

Together, we have accomplished many things, and I am pleased to share our 2017-2018 President’s Report that provides a small glimpse of OHIO’s remarkable progress during the past academic year and the achievements of OHIO’s students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Whether in health sciences, teacher education, mechanical engineering, strategic communications, fine arts, aviation or any number of other programs, Ohio University faculty, students and graduates are shaping the future and effecting positive change in our communities. The impact of Ohio University continues to expand far beyond Athens, with our more than 237,000 alumni sharing their talents around the globe.

This year, our focus has been to raise the academic profile of our institution and position OHIO as a national leader in the areas of diversity and inclusion, sustainability and community engagement, among others. The work of our extraordinary faculty, and the collaborative interdisciplinary efforts throughout our academic departments, should be celebrated and shared broadly. We have much to be proud of, and it’s time to spread the news of what Ohio University is capable of accomplishing.

After 214 years, this special place continues to transform the lives of everyone it touches. We have a great responsibility to prepare future generations of students to carry on the legacy of those who came before them. They will be the ones who will find cures for diseases, who will create technologies that don’t currently exist and who will lead our country to new heights for years to come. With our collective hard work and determined spirit, the impossible can be possible.

Thank you for allowing me to share just a few of the exceptional highlights from 2017-2018.

Cordially,
