Sunday’s annual President’s Convocation for First-Year Students in the Convocation Center was just one event in a weekend packed with fun and informative activities for Ohio University’s newest students.

This year’s President’s Convocation was aided by the use of video messages on the new Convocation Center video screens and a cellphone light activity.

Featured speakers included President Dr. M. Duane Nellis, Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Jason Pina, Senior Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Dr. Jenny Hall-Jones, Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion Dr. Gigi Secuban and Student Senate President Maddie Sloat.

First-year students also received personal advice via recorded video messages from new Executive Vice President and Provost Dr. Chaden Djalali, Faculty Senate Chair Dr. Joe McLaughlin and a host of other faculty members.

Before they were led up Richland Avenue to the College Green by the Marching 110, the students learned the University’s alma mater song, “Alma Mater, Ohio.”

After arriving on College Green, the students participated in the annual Campus Involvement Fair. Hosted by the Campus Involvement Center, the event featured more than 300 of the University’s student organizations and clubs.

On Friday evening, the Class of 2022 kicked off the weekend by taking a class photo at Peden Stadium.

Bobcat Welcome Week, which is taking place from May 23 to Sept. 1, is part of the University’s new “Ready. Set. OHIO!” initiative, which is a three-phased approach to preparing first-year students for life on the Athens Campus.
