Magician, comedians and sports highlight busy Parents Weekend

It is time for worlds to collide. Ohio University’s Annual Parents Weekend will start Friday, Sept. 28, and will continue through Sunday, Sept. 30. Parents Weekend is the first of four family weekends that will take place during the 2018-2019 academic year.

Parents Weekend serves as a chance for Bobcats to give their parents a taste of what it is like to live in Athens. This year’s Parents Weekend is full of activities for parents and students with all interests.

Friday:

OHIO Soccer vs. Miami: Starting at 4 p.m. parents and students can cheer on the Bobcats at Chessa Field. This is the one and only chance that parents and students will have to cheer on the soccer team this Parents Weekend. Admission is free.

Parents and Families Reception: Parents and families can connect with the OHIO Parents Advisory Council (OPAC) and student affairs leaders during the Parents and Families Reception, which will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28 on College Green (the West Portico of the Templeton Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium). This event is free and open to all OHIO parents and families. Refreshments and heavy hor d'oeuvres will be provided.

OHIO Volleyball vs. Buffalo: After supporting the Bobcats over at Chessa Field, parents and students are invited to head over to the Convocation Center at 7 p.m. to cheer on the OHIO volleyball team as they take on Buffalo. Parent tickets are $5, but are $2 if you show your football game ticket. Students are admitted free with ID.

OHIO Hockey vs. John Carroll: At 7:30 p.m. the OHIO club hockey team will take on John Carroll at Bird Arena. Get there early and join the Gang Green student section as they cheer on the Bobcats. Ticket prices are $6 for students or $9 for parents. Tickets can be found here.

Stargazing and Campfire: For those who may not be into sports, starting at 8 p.m. parents and students are invited to partake in a stargazing and campfire at The Ridges. Tickets are just $10 and can be purchased here.

Magician Daniel Martin: He has been featured on Netflix, CBS and NBC and at 8 p.m. on Sept. 29, the stage at Templeton Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium. Both students and parents will need tickets; they are $20 and can be purchased here.

Saturday:

Hike at Conkle’s Hollow: Starting at 10 a.m., nature-loving Bobcats and their parents can spend the day hiking at Conkle’s Hollow. Tickets are $20 and include lunch and transportation. Tickets can be purchased here.

Ziplining: Thrill-seeking Bobcats and their parents can check out the 300-foot long zip line over at The Ridges. Tours start every hour on the hour, and last about an hour, from 10 a.m. until noon, then again from 1 to 4 p.m. Tickets are $25 and can be found here.

OHIO Football vs. UMASS: Bobcats and parents can head over to Peden Stadium to stand up and cheer as the Bobcats take on the Minutemen from the University of Massachusetts at 2 p.m. The time of the game is still to be determined. Parent tickets are $25 and can be found here. Current OHIO students are admitted free with a student ID.

OHIO Volleyball vs. Akron: At 6 p.m. the OHIO volleyball team will take on Akron in the Convocation Center. Parent tickets are $5, but are $2 if you show your football game ticket. Students are admitted free with ID.

Stargazing and Campfire: If you missed it on Friday, the stargazing and campfire returns at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are just $10 and can be purchased here.

The Second City: Made in America: Comedy greats such as Chris Farley and Tina Fey have studied at The Second City based out of Chicago. At 8 p.m. in Templeton Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium, Bobcats and their parents can experience The Second City on their Made in America Tour. Tickets are $20 for both students and parents. Tickets can be purchased here.

Sunday:

Day Hike at Conkle’s Hollow: Parents and student who were too busy taking part in other Parents Weekend events on Saturday will have one last chance to hike Conkle’s Hollow at 10 a.m. The $20 ticket includes lunch and transportation. Tickets can be found here.
