See what's in the iCUE Spotlight: Sept. 14-20, 2018
Take a look at the upcoming events on the official OHIO Calendar of University Events. Anyone with an active OHIO ID can log in and complete the form to add events that are sponsored by any OHIO planning unit or registered student organization.
So be sure to add your OHIO events, programs and deadlines to the CUE to help keep all members of our University community in the loop!
Here’s a look at a few upcoming events:
11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14 | Howard Park, 48 E. Union, Athens, Ohio
OHIO Farmer's Market connects students with the local farmers and artist around our area. Vendors stop by each week to bring by fresh produce, art, food, sweets, and much more.
Public Telescope Nights at Ohio University Observatory
8 – 10 p.m. Sept. 14-15 | Observatory at The Ridges
Telescope Nights are hosted by the Ohio University Astronomy faculty and students. Visitors may see lunar craters, Saturn's rings, Jupiter, Mars, star clusters, or distant galaxies, depending on the time of year and sky conditions.
9 p.m. – 1 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15 | Living Learning Center, 11 S. Green Drive
OHIO Late Nights is for students on Saturday nights. Join us for games, karaoke, trivia, snacks and more.
RAD - Women's Self Defense Program
6 – 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16 | Ping Center, 82 S. Green Drive
The Ohio University Police Department offers the RAD class to all women of the Ohio University community. The RAD System is a comprehensive course for women that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction, and avoidance while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training. This is a six-week training class.
Noon – 12:35 p.m. Sept. 18-20 | Bird Arena, 23 Oxbow Trail
Join the Ohio University Police Department and WellWorks for a lunchtime walk. All members of the OHIO and Athens communities are welcome to join us for a special guest, good conversations and get your steps in!
The Music of Strangers (film screening)
7 – 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18 | Athena Cinema, 20 S. Court Street
The film follows an ever-changing lineup of performers drawn from the The Silk Road Ensemble's more than 50 instrumentalists, vocalists, composers, arrangers, visual artists and storytellers as they gather in locations across the world, exploring the ways art can both preserve traditions and shape cultural evolution. The free screening precedes a live performance by Cristina Pato of Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble on Sept. 24.
Workshop: How to Write a Competitive 1804 Fund proposal
4 – 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19; 11 a.m. - noon, Thursday, Sept. 20 | Alden Library 301U, 30 Park Place
The 1804 Fund supports curricular innovations and programs and activities that enhance undergraduate student, graduate student, and faculty research and creative activity. The Fund was established by the Ohio University Foundation to support the University's core mission of maintaining, strengthening, and enhancing a learning-centered community.
William Matheny (stage door series)
7 – 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 | Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium, 33 University Terrace
William Matheny, a West Virginia native and longtime multi-instrumentalist for Athens, Ohio, indie heroes Southeast Engine, first broke out on his own with 2017’s Strange Constellations, his debut 11-song solo collection.
