University employee’s spouse encourages participation in Healthy OHIO

When Kaylee Wilkof participated in Healthy OHIO as a University spouse several years ago, she received test results that both saved and changed her life. As a result of her Healthy OHIO blood work results, her doctor was able to quickly diagnose her with Type 1 Diabetes and support her on a new wellness journey.

“Healthy OHIO was a lifesaver,” Wilkof says of the program. She encourages others to participate in the biometric health screenings as well, regardless of their perceptions of their own health. “Even if you think you’re healthy, you may not know your cholesterol or blood pressure. Your brain is really powerful and can talk you out of how you’re feeling, but it’s important to have a well check…plus, it’s free!”

WellWorks, an initiative of the College of Health Sciences and Professions, works to support all eligible employees, spouses and partners to help them participate in the University’s employee wellness program, Healthy OHIO.

“Participation in the program is completely voluntary and confidential;” explained Annie Laurie Cadmus, engagement and marketing coordinator for WellWorks. “Each eligible employee can earn up to $260 annually and, if they have a spouse/partner enrolled in the medical plan, they’re eligible for up to $260 annually, too.”

This year, Healthy OHIO has three primary components:

  • Biometric Health Screening: Earn $60 on a January* paycheck.
    • Schedule an appointment at Athens WorkHealth at Castrop Center by calling 614-566-9675 or visit an in-network physician of your choosing and have them submit a Physician Screening Form.
    • Screenings can occur through Nov. 30 for the Athens campus (regional campus screenings occur in spring).

          * Regional campus rewards will occur in spring.

  • Online Wellness Support: Earn $50 quarterly when you engage with our customizable wellness platform, Virgin Pulse.
    • Participants can utilize an online version on a computer or download the app on a smart phone.
  • FREE Activity Tracker: Need an activity tracker? WellWorks is giving away Max Buzz™ devices through Nov. 30.

“My job is to help break down barriers and assist with accommodations to ensure employees can take advantage of employee wellness benefits,” said Cadmus.

She encourages employees to reach out directly if they would like support. Cadmus can be contacted by calling 740-593-2093 or via email at cadmus@ohio.edu.
