One of the world’s largest nonprofit education associations has recognized Ohio University alumni programming and communication and marketing efforts as among the region’s best.

Ohio University earned four awards during the 2018 Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District V Conference, held Dec. 9-11 in Chicago. An international association of educational institutions, CASE recognizes best practices in the field of advancement.

Ohio University’s Advancement Communication and Marketing (ACM) team received two awards for multimedia projects that accompanied Ohio Today magazine’s spring 2018 issue, themed “Leadership.”

ACM was presented with a Bronze Award for Best Practices in Digital Communication for “Made for This,” an Ohio Today radio podcast that highlighted three examples of everyday leadership occurring within the OHIO community. The podcast was produced by Cat Hofacker, BSJ ’18; Ohio Today Editor Kelee Garrison Riesbeck, BSJ, CERT ’91; and Pete Shooner, associate director of content at ACM and editor of Ohio Women, an imprint of Ohio Today.

ACM also received a Silver Award for Best Student-Produced Video for “OHIO’s High Ropes Course Takes Leadership to New Heights.” Produced by former ACM student videographer Mallory Golski, BSJ ’19, the video spotlighted Ohio University Campus Recreation’s high ropes course that challenges participants to step outside their comfort zones while supporting one another.

“It is an honor to be recognized among the best in our field,” said Jenn Bowie, assistant vice president of communications and chief of staff for Ohio University Advancement. “These awards are a testament to not only the outstanding work of our professional and student staff but also to the creative spirit our team channels in telling stories that inspire, inform and engage the Bobcat community.”

The OHIO Alumni Association was presented its 27th CASE award in the past five years, receiving the Silver Award for Excellence in Special Events/Series of Events for the 100th anniversary celebration of OHIO’s School of Music. To mark the occasion, the alumni association and the College of Fine Arts planned a year’s worth of activities, including campus visits from guest artists, concerts both on campus and at New York City’s Carnegie Hall, and a weekend of alumni reunion events. Another highlight of the celebration was the Marching 110’s performance in the 2017 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

“We were so pleased to find out that we had won this award,” said Rachel Cornish, director of external relations for the College of Fine Arts. “It’s a wonderful reflection of the hard work and collaboration between the OHIO Alumni Association, the School of Music faculty and staff, and some truly loyal Bobcats. What a great way to continue to celebrate the legacy of excellence that the School of Music provides.”

The Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Office of External Relations received a Silver Award for its Transformative Care Continuum Recruitment Campaign. The Transformative Care Continuum, developed with Cleveland Clinic, the college’s primary educational partner for its northeast Ohio campus, adapts medical education to meet the needs of rapidly changing, 21st-century health care systems, fundamentally changing the way physicians are trained. Charged with developing recruitment materials for this unprecedented program, communication staff crafted an integrated set of marketing materials, including a novel brochure composed of a series of print cards, a targeted website and a video.

“The campaign had to reflect the leading-edge, powerful nature of the program itself,” said Karoline Lane, chief communications officer at the Heritage College. “Our staff had a great collaboration with the physician educators who developed the program, our admissions leaders and Sway the Crowd, our video producers, to create progressive materials that would connect with the right applicants. Our organizations and the entire team are honored to be recognized by the CASE awards committee.”
