Neil Romanosky named OHIO’s new dean of University Libraries

Executive Vice President and Provost Dr. Chaden Djalali has named Neil Romanosky as the new dean of libraries at Ohio University, effective Sept. 1, 2019.

Romanosky will join the university from the University of Toronto Libraries in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where he had served as the associate chief librarian for science research and information and director of Gerstein Science Information Centre since 2015.

“I have great confidence in Dean Romanosky’s ability not only to lead OHIO’s libraries, but to advance the University’s strategic goals and support faculty and student research toward a goal of an increased research profile of Ohio University,” Dr. Djalali said. “I am pleased that the search committee helped to select such a promising leader. We have an excellent staff and I am excited to see how, under our new Dean’s leadership, the Libraries will continue to enhance support of student engagement and academic excellence.”

Prior to his current position, Romanosky held several appointments at New York University Health Sciences Library, including the assistant director of operations and department administrator; assistant director for program management and network services at the National Network of Libraries Medicine, Middle Atlantic Region (NN/LM); and network services coordinator at NN/LM.

Before these roles at New York University Health Sciences Library, Romanosky held appointments as interlibrary loan and delivery services librarian, as well as interlibrary loan supervisor, at Columbia University Libraries. He has been an Association of Research Libraries Leadership Fellow and an American Library Association Emerging Leader.

Romanosky holds a master of science in library and information science from Pratt Institute; a master of arts in organizational development and change from Fielding Graduate University; a master of communication and information studies from Rutgers University; a Bachelor of Arts from Rider University; and a certificate in human capital management from New York University School of Professional Studies. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in organizational development and change from Fielding Graduate University.

In his new role, Romanosky will serve as dean of one of the top 100+ research libraries in North America and will oversee library operations on OHIO’s Athens Campus, as well as the Hwa-Wei Lee Library Annex on Columbus Road in Athens. Romanosky will also lead University Libraries in the One OHIO University integration among regional, extension, online and Athens campuses.

Dr. Djalali announced the search committee for Ohio University’s dean of libraries in October 2018 after Dean Scott Seaman retired after holding the position for 10 years. Janet Hulm, associate dean of libraries, was appointed interim dean of libraries in January and will continue serving in that role through the end of August.
