Climatic Change, and What it Means for the Emergency Management Field

Sept. 9, Noon - 1 p.m. Baker University Center 235

Athens County EMA Director Don Gossel will present on the topic of global warming, climate change, or cyclic nature – does it really matter? What does matter is the impact it has presented globally. Whether it’s severe heat, flooding, drought, blizzard, tornadoes, hurricanes or a multitude of inclement weather combinations, the Earth has undoubtedly seen climatic change that has brought forth “new normals” of evolutionary proportion. Even Ohio, a state typically immune to most severe weather has seen significant change in the past decade including warmer winters, wet springs, hot summers and more. We will explore local change and what it has meant to the Emergency Management Field when it comes to planning for disasters.
