Christopher Ament named chief information officer
Ohio University President M. Duane Nellis announced that Christopher Ament has been named chief information officer effective immediately.
Ament, who has served as interim Chief Information Officer since April 2019, joined Ohio University’s Office of Information Technology in June 2016, after more than 16 years as a senior level IT leader with the University of Minnesota. In order to best advance OHIO’s digital first strategy, Ament will report to both President Nellis and Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer Brad Cohen.
“Chris possesses the skills and attributes we need right now to help lead our digital transformation efforts aligned with the Fearlessly First strategy” said President Nellis. “During his time at OHIO, Chris has demonstrated excellent technical knowledge and expertise in support of innovation that will help advance our efforts to reimagine the academic enterprise and enhance the student experience.”
As CIO, Ament will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive strategies to align the University’s technology enterprise with academic and administrative strategic objectives.
“Technology will enable many of our strategic priorities, and continued investment in our technology enterprise at OHIO is a critical part of our organizational success," said Ament. "We have a strong team, and I look forward to collaborating with students, faculty and staff as we build a roadmap for OHIO’s digital future.”
According to Cohen, Ament’s leadership and experience will help the University realign information technology functions to better address current challenges and help OHIO realize a digital transformation aligned with strategic priorities.
Cohen said, “We've built a great deal of momentum within the OIT organization thanks to Chris's leadership and strategic vision. He has the right blend of experience and skills along with the knowledge to support our evolving technology needs.”
