Meet the December Facilities Management Employees of the Month

Ohio University Facilities Management and Safety has announced the December 2019 awardees of its Employee of the Month program, which recognizes exceptional performance by its employees.

All OHIO employees are invited to nominate FMS employees for this award using the nomination form on the FMS website. Nominations will be accepted at any time during the year.

This month’s winners are Tonia Reiber and Melany Schoolcraft.

Tonia Reiber
Tonia Reiber

Reiber, an administrative specialist for Design and Construction, was nominated by Tiffany Sanders. Here is sampling of what she wrote:

“Due to department changes, Tonia was asked to assist with entering shop billings against projects. Since then, she has been processing all billings. This is a tremendous help and is very much appreciated. She didn’t skip a beat when she learned of her new duties and immediately scheduled a time to learn the task. She is inquisitive and eager to learn. She jumps right in to help any way she can while supporting an entire department with a guiding, helpful hand. She is truly an asset to our team.”

A closer look at Tonia Reiber:

What do you like most about your job? I am part of a team that is dedicated to helping the University. Every day brings new experiences that let me help my team and the University community.

What do you do in your spare time? Spend time with my family. We do boating in the summer and skiing in the winter.

What is on your bucket list? Visit Hawaii and travel more.

What advice do you see yourself in five years? My daughter will be a student at OHIO, so I will be an employee and proud Bobcat parent.

Schoolcraft, a utility worker, was nominated by Jennifer Truax. Here is sampling of what she wrote:

“Melany is a great asset to the third custodial shift. She goes above and beyond making sure her area on the Baker Center first floor is more than presentable. She always has a smile and is willing to help in any way she can. She voices thoughts and opinions on what she feels would make her team perform better. She listens to instructions and performs tasks as given.”

A closer look at Melany Schoolcraft:

What is your family like? I am a single mom of three kids. My grandfather lives with us and my oldest son is a junior at OHIO.

What do you like most about your job? My coworkers, they are so friendly and helpful.

What do you do in your spare time? I like to garden, spend time outdoors, make crafts and of course spend time with my family.

What do you do on your days off? Relax with my family.

What is on your bucket list? Travel more.

How has OHIO helped your career development? Well I have always had to work multiple jobs. Since I started working at OHIO, it has allowed me to work less. My hope is to someday only work for OHIO and go back to school.

Where do you see yourself in five years? Working as a custodial worker in my own building and taking classes.

What advice do you have for prospective OHIO candidates? Be flexible.

What is your favorite part about working at OHIO? The health and tuition benefits.

Tell us something about you we may not know? For more than a decade, I worked with children with severe physical and mental disabilities. I have always wanted to have a foster home or group home for those children in need of a safe and loving place to live.
