OHIO implements MyOHIO ADVICE text messaging program to support all students

Ohio University has implemented MyOHIO ADVICE, a free text message-based support that is being expanded to include all OHIO students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, Ohio University used the text message-based advising system to help certain students make a more successful adjustment to their first year of college.

Undergraduate students should have begun receiving text messages if they have a valid cell phone number on file with the University. MyOHIO ADVICE texts are personalized for students and will include study tips, motivation, and important campus information. Once a student gets the first text, they can then save the number into their phone contact list.

Based on behavioral science, this program is part automated. Some of the texts will be questions, and the more a student responds, the more personalized the program will be.

This text nudge program will keep students informed about changes and to help support with finishing the semester. Students who use text message-based programs have been shown at other colleges to be more likely to succeed and graduate.

There is no charge associated with this program, but standard SMS fees may apply. If students do not want to receive messages, they can end the service at any time by texting “STOP” to any message.

Student success is a primary focus of Ohio University and reflects our core commitment to student success.
