Video: OHIO students discuss hazing awareness and prevention

How do students define hazing and how can it be prevented?

As part of the Bobcat Safety & Respect Video series, the Division of Student Affairs recently featured a conversation between five Bobcats about hazing awareness and prevention.

The students discussed the various behaviors and actions (as well as their outcomes) that can be defined as hazing. They pointed out that hazing can occur in various types of organizations.

In addition, the students talked about the role of bystanders in hazing. They acknowledged the hesitations or concerns that students may have with intervening in hazing behavior. The Bobcats pointed out ways students can think ahead about situations they may find themselves in, speak up—even when others may not be able to do so—and take action to support peers.

The students discussed how student organizations can educate their members about hazing and have conversations—however uncomfortable or challenging they may be—with peers about the issue.
