Cybersecurity Awareness Month: If You Connect It, Protect It

As part of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Ohio University’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) is providing weekly guidance on how faculty, staff, and students can #BeCyberSmart.

Every day, more and more devices are connected to the internet. While these connections often make our lives easier, they can introduce unintended challenges as well. According to the NETSCOUT Threat Intelligence Report, once an internet-capable device is connected, it is typically “attacked within 5 minutes and targeted by specific exploits within 24 hours.”

At Ohio University, we consider security to be a shared responsibility. There are multiple things to consider when protecting connected devices here at the University. Learn more about how to protect your systems and data with simple tricks, like enabling multi-factor authentication, spotting phishing schemes, and securing your passwords.

Complete the #BeCyberSmart Scavenger Hunt by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9 to lock in your chance to win a $25 certificate to Bobcat Depot.
