Heather Lambert, a senior within Ohio University’s undergraduate Social Work program, has been named “Student of the Year” by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Ohio, Region 5.

She was recognized during the NASW’s Regional Awards ceremony on January 11.

“Through Heather’s service, her academic drive and accomplishment, and her commitment to the Social Work profession, she exemplifies all that we as Social Work educators hope to see in a Social Work Student,” said College of Health Sciences and Professions (CHSP) Associate Professor of Instruction and Undergraduate Field Coordinator Sarah Webb.

Webb nominated Lambert for the award in September 2020.

Lambert is an Honors Tutorial College Scholar at Ohio University, which includes a full academic scholarship, and she is a past recipient of CHSP’s Dean’s Scholarship.

She has also served as a research assistant in both the Department of Social Work and Ohio University’s Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs where she assisted with research on the School’s economic development team. She was also a finalist for the Jewish National Fund’s 2019-2020 Caravan for Democracy.

Currently, Lambert is conducting her own research on rape myth acceptance and rape myth acceptance related to cultural differences among Appalachian students.
