OHIO recognized as one of the most transfer friendly schools in the nation

Ohio University was recently named to Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) 2021 Transfer Honor Roll, recognizing the development and support of pathways created for the success of community college transfer students. 

“The Transfer Honor Roll reflects the growing importance of recognizing and responding to the needs of transfer students,” Phi Theta Kappa President and CEO Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner said. “This award is given to four-year colleges and universities with proven outcomes for transfer success. They are the best at providing a supportive and smooth transition from community college — equating to increased rates of bachelor’s degree attainment for transfer students.”

Institutions were selected based on a Transfer Friendliness Rating, determined by their Transfer Profile in PTK Connect, which looks at the institution’s information about admissions practices, recruitment practices, cost of attendance and campus life. PTK Connect is PTK’s virtual tool that assists students in finding their colleges, career pathways and more. 

“OHIO is committed to serving and creating pathways for transfer students to provide seamless access to the Ohio University experience on all our campuses and online. It is a great honor to be selected once again to the Transfer Honor Roll by PTK and I thank all who contribute to this effort,” Robert Callahan, interim assistant vice president of enrollment management and director of undergraduate admissions, said.

This marks the second year in a row OHIO has been recognized, and fifth time overall since 2016. This year, 150 institutions made the list and only seven were from the state of Ohio.

“Transfer students have fantastic opportunities at Ohio University, and we work with community college partners and other universities around the state to ensure that those students have the right resources and support for them to continue learning,” OHIO Executive Vice President and Provost Elizabeth Sayrs said. “I am proud of the hard work of many teams  here at OHIO that make students’ educational goals a reality. We are honored to once again receive this national recognition.”

Making sure transfer students have the resources and pathways to help them succeed is vital to helping them grow here at Ohio University. 

Established in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa is the premier honor society recognizing the academic achievement of two-year degree students and has over 3.5 million members and almost 1,300 chapters in 11 nations.
